A Path to Financial Wellbeing
By Koorosh Ostowari
Uncertainty can create anxiety, and this anxiety often stems from our relationship with money. According to the American Psychological Association, 80% of us suffer from “money anxiety disorder” triggered by the economy, employment instability, divorce, or just struggling to stay on budget—particularly during tax season.
As a first-generation Iranian, Sausalito resident Koorosh Ostowari experienced the booms and busts of the real estate market, leaving him spinning and seeking an answer to his own money anxiety. As a trained Spirit Rock Meditation Center Dharma Leader and certified somatic therapist, he has helped thousands like himself overcome their money anxiety through private and group work. His new book, The Money Anxiety Cure: A Path to Financial Wellbeing, shares the same practices he uses in his lectures and workshops. Encouraging self-acceptance and mindfulness, each chapter highlights how anxiety is created in our brains and is felt in our bodies—dictating how we live our lives. The book includes a series of somatic, meditative, and real-life exercises to help readers make concrete steps toward confronting—and overcoming—financial fears.
Koorosh was honored with a 2015 Certificate of Special Recognition by Congress and with a recent Certificate of Recognition by the California State Legislature, in part for his public service work within the Northern California prison system, as well as for his work with the public sector, helping clients and students cultivate mindfulness, alleviate anxiety, and achieve work/life balance and financial wellbeing.
