Heather Houston

Featuring the heart-opening voice of Heather Houston, this new CD is infused with love and prayers for our sacred waters. Produced by award-winning guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Todd Boston, this album also features Tammy Hall on piano, Jami Sieber on cello, and the women’s global music choir Yala Lati, as well as Todd’s stellar playing.

Heather is an acclaimed singer, choral director, and vocal empowerment coach living in Santa Cruz. She has inspired thousands of people worldwide to effortlessly open their hearts and sing their spirits free. Heather has been singing since the age of 3. With perfect pitch, a full-bodied voice, and a naturally sunny and loving disposition, she has come to recognize her Divine calling: to help people heal and reconnect with themselves, each other, and the Spirit of Life through song. Her path of learning has led her to many of the world’s finest vocalists, including Silvia Nakkach, Rhiannon, and Bobby McFerrin. From Prayers for the Water’s opening “Calling the Whales,” enchantment reigns. “Surrender” invites entering the flow of the river Divine, while “Chant to Oshun” is sung as a “round,” lilting and uplifting, to the Yoruban goddess of the fresh waters. J. D. Martin’s “I Dreamed of Rain” sings volumes about our water plight. The closing track, “Chant to Yemaya” honors the goddess of the living oceans and her nurturing, soothing qualities that envelop all.

Prayers for the Water is one of the finest releases of the year, Grammy-worthy, and an intimate listening companion for years to come. Dive in and you’ll swim effortlessly! Heather’s CD release concert tour comes to the Marin School on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. (pre-concert reception at 7 p.m.) with the entire ensemble who created this superb recording. On Saturday night, Sept. 12, find them at Kuumbwa Jazz in Santa Cruz.
