John Kain has studied Zen with John Daido Loori Roshi for ten years. A former associate publisher of Tricycle magazine, his articles have appeared in Tricycle, Beliefnet and Yoga Journal, among others. He is the author of A Rare and Precious Thing: The Possibilities and Pitfalls of Working with a Spiritual Teacher (Bell Tower, 2006).
Amy Pennington is a regular contributor to WLT’s Seattle sister pub, Conscious Choice, and also produces a weekly food radio program hosted by two northwest chefs. She recently launched her own business Go Go Green Garden, planting and tending vegetable gardens for private homes in the Pacific Northwest.
E.B. Boyd is a San Francisco-based journalist who writes about everything from sustainability to psychology to journalism to innovation. This month, she researched intentional communities. As a member of a large extended family, the companionship and support provided by communities made perfect sense to her.
