We, the (Contaminated) People

Thank you very much for publishing “Biomonitoring: Emissions Testing for the Body,” (May, 07), highlighting the fact that all of us carry around toxic residues of mercury, pesticides and other poisons in our blood and tissues.

I do have one quibble: the author states that testing is estimated to cost “several thousand dollars per person,” leaving the reader feeling powerless to take charge of his or her life. This needn’t be so, especially if tests were done as a matter of routine (in the way that PAP smears and PSA tests are carried out) under health insurance.

Please make an editorial decision to empower people to take charge of their lives in the articles you print. Focusing on the high cost of testing, as the article does at the very end, leads people to believe it can’t happen anytime soon. Rather, use the power of the written word to encourage immediate action on the part of parents, doctors, insurance companies, schools and politicians, so that we establish baseline monitoring for all. — Dee Cope, Sebastopol

Aww, We Like You Too

Thank you for your wonderful magazine. I’ve just received my first copy and was very pleased to see the article about raw foods. I intend to read the magazine cover to cover and I look forward to seeing future copies. — Laurie Adams, Seattle

I was having a drink this week with a friend and mentioned to her how much I liked the CG magazine covers, along with the magazine in general. She encouraged me to relay the feedback to you all directly... so there you go... your covers and mag rock! The calendar section is pretty cool too. — Matt Cone, via email

Corrections

In the article “Discover Jivamukti Yoga in SF” in our April issue, local Jivamukti teacher Laura Noss was misidentified as Laura Ross. Also, she does not teach at Yoga Sangha, but rather at Bernal Yoga (461 Cortland) and Yoga of Sausalito (110 Caledonia Street, Sausalito).
