• Sun., July 10, 5pm. LaborFest Reading with Leslie Simon, Nellie Wong, Phyllis Holliday, Alice Rogoff, and Lynn Werner. The event is part of an annual labor culture festival commemorating the July 1934 San Francisco General Strike.

• Tues., July 19. Margo Pepper, poet, translator, activist, reads from and discusses Through the Wall: A Year in Havana.

• Thurs., July 21. UC Press New California Poetry Series with Laura Mullen, Geoffrey G. O’Brien, Martha Ronk, Carol Snow, and Juliana Spahr.

UPCOMING BOOK EVENT
Syndicated columnist Norman Solomon (“Media Beat”) is the founder of the Institute for Public Accuracy. His new book, War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death (John Wiley & Sons) argues that, however deceptive, the Bush administration’s pre-invasion propagandizing was hardly new. In August, Solomon will track the perennial tides and formulaic quality of American war propaganda at these Bay Area bookstores:
